Take your survival skills to new heights!

"Many people find it hard to understand what it is about a mountain that draws men and women to risk their lives on her freezing, icy faces – all for a chance at that single, solitary moment on the top. It can be hard to explain. But I also relate to the quote that says, if you have to ask, you will never understand"

Following the success of Bear’s extreme survival courses in The Highlands of Scotland and on the bleak and wild Tor’s of Dartmoor, the Bear Grylls Survival Academy is now offering an extreme survival course in the rugged mountains of North Wales, Snowdonia. Bear has filmed several of his TV shows at this location including ITV’s "Bear's Mission With Rob Brydon" and this intense two-day survival skills course follows the same format as the show; utilising some of the same extreme mountainous locations and dynamic adventure activities. Over two days, participants receive a crash course in Bear’s extreme survival techniques and get to put these skills into practice whilst climbing rock faces, descending into deep mine shafts, negotiating underground railway tunnels and canoeing across lakes and fast flowing rivers - all whilst traversing the high mountains of North Wales.

Day one, you’ll will meet the other course participants at a mountain cafe near Caernarfon. Load up with chocolate biscuits and your last cup of tea before you head up in to the mountains of Snowdonia.

Now you’re on the move, lead and guided by Bear's team of instructors who are professional mountaineers, adventurers and work as part of Bear's safety team. Each instructor is an expert in their respective fields, including mountaineering, climbing, wilderness survival and extreme adventurous activity. You will learn the priorities of survival to keep you alive and within minutes of starting out, you’ll be scrambling your way up a vertical rock face. From there you’ll navigate up a river gorge, swim across a deep river and climb up mountainous terrain to your wild camp location. The survival training goes on throughout the evening culminating with an astro navigation session and night mountain adventure before bed. The next morning the challenge really begins, and the course starts to gather pace. On the way back down the mountain you will abseil down a huge cliff into a sink hole, navigate through a deep mine shaft, negotiate a long water-filled underground railway tunnel and canoe across a lake before finally being picked up by 4x4 rescue Land Rover. After a steep and thrilling 4x4 off road journey you’ll arrive back at the mountain cafe for cake and medals...... or at least your BGSA certificate, badge and paracord bracelet.

Snowdon, North Wales

Formed by ancient volcanoes and sculpted by glaciers thousands of years before now, Snowdon is the highest point in the British Isles outside the Scottish Highlands. An area of both exceptional natural beauty and demanding terrain, it was used by Sir Edmund Hillary in training for his famed ascent of Mount Everest, and continues to challenge and inspire climbing enthusiasts today.

These items will all help you to survive! Please note, all of the clothing and equipment that you bring must be appropriate to the environment and the time of year. This is just a guide and you may not require all the kit. Your instructors will let you know what to take out into the wilderness on arrival-any extra kit can be secured at base camp.
