This assessment day is the natural progression from attending the BGSA Instructors Course, and we highly recommend that you shadow on courses before attending your assessment day.
The day’s assessments include a short online multiple choice exam, and submitting videos of you delivering both a classroom and practical field based lesson.
Written Multiple Choice Exam
The 30 minute exam will be conducted online and in real-time, containing questions about the below subject areas:
Classroom Assessed Lesson
Candidates will be asked to film themselves delivering a 15 minute lesson on a famous adventurer. The subject matter will be provided by BGSA from our database of adventurers. As an example, Edmund Hillary, Ernest Shackleton or Reinhold Messner to name a few.
Practical Field Based Lessons
Candidates will be asked to film themselves delivering a 15 minute practical, field-based lesson, this time, of their own choice from the following list:
Both videos need to be submitted ahead of the assessment day.

These items will all help you to survive! Please note, all of the clothing and equipment that you bring must be appropriate to the environment and the time of year. This is just a guide and you may not require all the kit. Your instructors will let you know what to take out into the wilderness on arrival-any extra kit can be secured at base camp.
…and don't forget a bag full of positive attitude!
